The type of activities that will be undertaken on the project weekends will have a number of training objectives; one of the most important is fun! All the activities you see below are just a selection of activities that Air Cadets undertake on a regular basis.
It is important to note that all participants will be fully supervised by qualified staff on each activity. All staff are CRB Police checked and cleared.

Obstacle Course Training
The obstacle course is designed to test not only your physical robustness but more crucially your mental ability and determination. It helps to develop team building and self-confidence skills and is one of the most enjoyable activities Cadets has to offer. 494 Sqn recently undertook some obstacle course training at Colchester Garrison – click

Shooting
Shooting is one of the most popular activities in the Air Cadets. Participants will initially be given training on one of the ATC’s service weapons and will be undertaking ‘experience firing’. The Squadron recently undertook some weapons training and shooting, click here to see the pictures.

Fieldcraft
Fieldcraft is the art of living and moving in the field. Participants will be taught how to live and operate effectively in a field environment which helps to develop qualities of responsibility, leadership and initiative. Types of activities included will be:
- Camouflage and Concealment
- Tactical Movement
- Section Patrolling
- Section Attacks
- Observation Posts (OP’s)
- Ambushes
- Harbour Areas
- Vehicle Check Points (VCP’s)
- Briefing Techniques
- Shelter building

Campcraft
When camping and living in the field its important to understand your surroundings and how to operate. Training will include activities such as, navigation, setting up campsites and tents and most importantly field hygiene, washing and cooking. The weekend will even involve cooking your own British Force ration pack meals!

Team Building & Leadership
Cadets at 494 Sqn are given the opportunity to lead early. During our project weekends participants will be taught how to brief and manage a task. This includes important aspects such as, clarity of communication, determination and motivation. For more information please visit our leadership page.

Team Sports
